Fundamentals of Deep Learning, previous experience programming in Python and some machine learning background is advised to make best use of the course. Click here to indicate you have previous experience in Python and some machine learning experience.

For Deep Learning Part I, we require students to have one of the following prerequisites or prior experience. Please indicate which option you have satisfied.

1+ years working in a coding-based position

2+ years studying computer science at the university level

Completion of a data science or programming boot camp plus 6+ months work experience

Significant open source coding experience for 1+ years

For Deep Learning Part II, we require students to have familiarity with Python, git, and bash as well as familiarity with the content covered in Deep Learning Part 1, version 2, including the fastai library, a high-level wrapper for PyTorch.

Deep Learning Part I at the Data Institute

The Data Institute offers Diversity Fellowships for certificate courses and we ask that applicants submit a resume and a statement of purpose that describes how you meet the eligibility requirements for the Diversity Fellowship. Diversity Fellows should be an underrepresented group in the field of Data Science.

The application deadline for a Deep Learning Diversity Fellowship is January 31, 2020 at 12pm noon PST.

The requirements to apply for a Deep Learning Diversity Fellowship are:
- At least 1 year of coding experience (the course is taught in Python)
- At least 8 hours a week to commit to the course (includes time for homework)
- Curiosity and a willingness to work hard
- Identify as a woman, person of Color, LGBTQ person, person with a disability, and/or veteran
- Be available to attend in-person 6:30-9pm in downtown San Francisco (SOMA), one evening per week (exact schedule found here under details)

Your statement should include:
- 1 paragraph describing one or more problems you’d like to apply deep learning to
- 1 paragraph describing previous machine learning education or experience (e.g. fast.ai courses, Coursera, deeplearning.ai)
- Which under-indexed group(s) you are a part of (gender, race, sexual identity, veteran)
